We are a 3rd party design service that provides you the files to upload on Snapchat. Snapchat geofilters allow users to dress up a photo, but only if they are in the right location. The filters change based on where the person is when they take the picture, and someone in New York City will see different filters than individuals who are taking shots in Miami. In the past, users were limited to the geofilters offered through the company, but that has now changed. Community geofilters enable users to submit an idea and have their image distributed to a large group. For this reason, many businesses and private events are now opting to create a one-time geofilter to brand their business or event in a whole new way. So, what is Snapchat, what are geofilters, and how does this process work?
For those who are not familiar with this mobile app, Snapchat allows people to send a photo or video to friends. Where it differs from other mobile apps is the photo or video then is erased within seconds of the person actually viewing it. If someone wants to save the photo or video, however, they can do so by taking a snapshot of the screen. This app hasn't been around long, but more than 700 million snaps were already being sent each day as of May 2014. That number only continues to climb, and teens love it, although countless adults use it too. Evan Spiegal, co-founder and CEO of Snapchat, reports they now have more than 100 million individuals who use the app every day, and 2 billion videos are exchanged each day, with 60 percent of users creating new content on a daily basis.
Geofilters are nothing more than digital graphics which may be overlaid on a video or photo, similar to digital stickers, but built into the program. In many situations, the geofilter offers a sketch of a local landmark, yet the company is now expanding the options. On-demand geofilters may now be used by weddings, parties, businesses and more, and are available for a limited period of time in a specific geographic area. These are in addition to the community geofilters submitted by current Snapchat users that are free and available on the app. Many consider custom Snapchat geofilters to be the ideal interactive compliment, as they visually communicate the message of the event to the user. It's specifically designed with the audience in mind and can easily be found when they're scrolling through their filter options. Event planners only need to provide input on the design and let the audience know the filter is available and their work is done.
The first step of the process involves designing the filter. It truly needs to reflect the event in every way, thus we work with clients to ensure we meet their goals in terms of the artwork and the message to be shared. Customers have the option of using an image editor to create a filter that we can use as a starting point, or we can create it completely, making use of input from the client. Nobody knows an event better than the person planning it, thus this is one area where clients definitely need to be involved. We make certain this portion of the process is as easy as possible.
What makes these filters so unique is they are limited to specific geographical regions. A user cannot access a geofilter unless they are within range, meaning clients need to provide information about where they want individuals to be able to make use of their custom creation. With this information, a geofence will then be established. This allows only those people in the specified area to access the custom filter, making it unique to the event or function. At this time, the specific times and dates the geofilter will be available need to be determined so they can be provided to the company.
The custom filter must be submitted to Snapchat to be approved before the process can move forward. Our team handles this process and ensures there are no problems before it ever leaves our office. Once the submission process is complete, the filter will be up and running at the desired time and in the desired location. It's that easy.
Location services permit users to access the geofilters, but the location data isn't stored by Snapchat at any time. Access location services by adjusting settings on the phone being used. Once Snapchat location services are enabled, open the app and click on the settings cog, which may be found in the upper right corner. Select Manage and turn on Filters. Doing so enables any geofilters active in the area. Make sure to swipe right to see all of the geofilter options for the current location, as the custom filter will be offered in this area. It will be easily identifiable by participants, so this is never a concern.
When working with our company, consumers find they have two options to select from. The one-day option is ideal for special events while businesses and venues frequently opt for the one-month geofilter selection. Both provide 20,000 square feet of coverage along with unlimited snaps and custom template design. The one-day version remains available for up to 24 hours. In contrast, the one-month version is available for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the entire month. Some restrictions may apply, and more coverage is available if needed.
Businesses find they spread their message beyond those attending an event when they choose to purchase a custom Snapchat geofilter. Attendees learn more about the primary objective of the event and share this information with others when they distribute their photos. Each event filter is created to reflect the purpose, personality, and cause of the event, yet remains aesthetically pleasing. Companies find these filters are ideal for product launches, inductions, ribbon cuttings, seminars, awards ceremonies, fundraisers, and more.
Businesses continuously need to find new ways to engage consumers, and Snapchat is a great way to do so. According to Snapchat, 37 percent of individuals between the ages of 18 and 24 are currently using the app, with 23 percent of individuals between the ages of 13 and 17 taking advantage of the app, with 26 percent of those between the ages of 25 and 34 also using the app. When Snapchatters are exposed to an ad on the app, they are more likely to engage in the desired behavior. For example, when a snapchatter watches an ad for a movie, they are three times more likely to actually go see the movie. In addition, viewers are nine times more likely to view a vertical mobile video than a horizontal one, according to the company responsible for the app, and the video or photo is always shown full screen.
Now imagine increasing brand exposure by allowing businesses to use a custom-created geofilter. The filter may have the brand name or the brand logo, or it may deliver a short message the company wishes to get across. For example, most individuals are familiar with the Nike slogan, "Just Do It." This slogan could be used by Nike at a marathon or other sporting event, and users could send photos to friends and family that show the slogan on their picture. Imagine the reach this would have when the photo is shared. Although Nike is a well known company, smaller brands can easily do the same, sharing their logo with a bigger audience through the use of these custom filters.
Weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other private functions often follow similar patterns, and it can be hard to make one event stand out in the crowd. Many event planners now turn to photo booths to spice up their event, but these pictures can't be easily shared. They are mementos of the occasion, but ones that must be carried home and uploaded if they are to be shared. This isn't the case when Snapchat is used, and event planners can still offer props to add to the photos guests take. The Snapchat custom geofilter is an added bonus that customers are sure to love because it can be used to share the name of the happy couple, the name of the person the bar mitzvah is being held for, the date, or any message the planner wishes to share.
